Why Do You Really Have A Headache?

It can be just one of those things. Whether we are looking after your long-term health or not, we all get headaches now and again. But while it’s one of the most common medical complaints, and can affect anybody, if it’s something you are suffering with on a regular basis, can it be the symptom of something deeper? Let’s have a look at some of the common causes of a headache…

Tension And Stress

Everybody’s had a tension headache, and this is one of the more common forms. It can feel like you have a tight band around your head, as well as a constant dull ache on both sides of your head. If it’s on a regular basis, and lasts for a few hours, stress and tension in your life need to be minimised. Yes, this is easier said than done, but if you can plot when you have a specific headache in relation to what’s going on in your life, you can start to make appropriate changes in your life. If you are someone that is constantly stressed, you can look at minimising your stress through specific mindfulness techniques. Deep breathing, meditation, or stress relieving practices like acupressure or acupuncture are worth exploring.

Constipation

If you experience a headache when you feel constipated, you may think that it’s directly due to your bowels, but this is unclear. Headaches and constipation at the same time may very well be the side effect of an underlying condition. But if you have difficulty passing stools, there are fast constipation relief methods out there, but it could very well be due to the fact that you are tensing yourself too much when trying to pass a stool. It’s also worth noting that if you have difficulty passing a stool, especially after eating a certain sort of food, you may very well have a food intolerance, and the headache could be your body’s response to this item of food. It’s worth having an allergy test, just so you can eliminate the prospect of a food allergy or intolerance.

Issues In Other Parts Of The Body

Having a headache isn’t necessarily due to the pain you feel in your head, it could be connected to something else. If you use an excessive amount of medication to treat your headache, when the effects wear off, this can result in what is called a rebound headache. This, in turn, could cause neck pain, nasal congestion, as well as restlessness and poor quality sleep. If you are someone that is exercising with poor form, or you are undertaking more strain than usual, this tension can spread to the head.

There are other types of headache, like cluster headaches, thunderclap headaches, and migraines, and it’s important that if you experience headaches that stop your ability to live your life, you should seek the help of a medical professional. Even if you are an extremely healthy person, headaches can be par for the course. And let’s not forget, when we are dehydrated, we have headaches. It could very well be as simple as this, that you aren’t drinking enough water.
