Sydneysiders are being warned to stay indoors as the huge dust cloud descends on Sydney.

The dust storm was carried east over much of New South Wales and Sydney as winds up to 100kph (that created the dust storm) continued to push it eastwards.

The report this morning from the weather bureau said that the dust should settle late this afternoon.

High winds are expected throughout the rest of the day.

Warnings to remain inside have been issued for those suffering from poor health, asthma and heart and lung disease.
